PHONEY FAVOURITES #01

Milou van Hoof

Amsterdam-based photographer Milou van Hoof approaches her craft with an unexpected sort of intimacy. Using colour, composition and her subject's natural quirks, she creates infinitely interesting portrait series that exist within a captivating universe of perfectly imperfect muses.

I set up a frame and allow room for play within it. By capturing this in a single image, I achieve that magnetic reality I seek within my subject.

One of the Phoney core values is 'The Importance Of Play.' An ode to experimentation, play, and creativity. What does 'Play'  mean to you?

M:        I believe I'm quite playful in terms of personality, and this also plays a significant role in the way I photograph. I set up a frame and allow room for play within it. By capturing this in a single image, I achieve that magnetic reality I seek within my subject.

What is your current favorite song (or playlist)?

M:        Les Gout - rampa, chaula, keinemusik (Choosing a song is a bit tricky since it's so random and time-sensitive).


Which female artist inspire you?

M:        Rineke Dijkstra - Forever favorite

A funny moment or a learning moment? Or any other random note

M:        I can absolutely only do one thing at a time.
